Small amounts of scientific data can be reused in your own work without premission, if a complete and accurate reference is given. However the form (e.g. figure, table or chart) that the data is presented in can´t be reused without permission due to the copyright law. If a figure is a bar chart, you can, for example, make it into a line chart and then use it in your work without violating copyright. Generally, one needs to make significant changes to a figure or table in order to avoid copyright infringement. A complete and accurate reference to the original source must always be given.
